An update and some little lights.

Things have moved on a tad with The Tenement.   As you can see, the panelling has been painted and a mirror inserted in the panel.    I've also added a painting (more on that in another post).   The walls aren't fixed permanently yet as I had a bit of a fiddle sorting out the wiring at the back.   All the lighting (apart from the central ceiling light) is situated on this right hand wall and all the wires had to be taped down and fed through the wooden battens I've got at the back to prevent the walls from curving in on themselves.   It then all had to be poked through a hole drilled at the back of the box - quite a fiddly job, I may add.

I have a love/hate relationship with lighting.   When it works, it's wonderful.   When it gives me grief, I'm sure folk can hear me in Australia!   Anyway, today it all worked.

Part of the reason for this unadulterated joy is the fact that I made the two little lights on the mirror. Yes, me, myself - I did it! They were in a tricky place as I didn't have much wall at the very front of the box to allow for a double fitting and although I spent quite a while searching for lights that matched the originals, there didn't seem to be any where one light was fixed higher than the other which would have been ideal. That was before I came across an excellent tutorial offered by Lea Frisoni.

The above pic shows the fitting in it's almost finished state but when I show the room in more detail I'll put up better photographs of the lights but for the moment I'm just so thrilled that they all work.

Thank you Lea for such an excellent tutorial.

  1. Hi Irene, I am so impressed by your lights. I have wimped out of proper lights now and am only putting in LED's.
The wiring at the back is a real conumdrum isn't it. One day I will tidy it all away and make the backs as tidy as the fronts......One day!
The back of the fireplace is also looking really beautiful.

  2. Brilliant work, Irene! The whole wall looks superb and the lights are the icing.

I have heard some sounds coming from your direction but they were too muffled to understand clearly - perhaps for the best. :-D

  3. Irene, your lights are brilliant (in both senses!!) I love them, great job! I can see why you're so pleased with them. I like the mirror inset into the panelling too, works really well. The fire place as a whole looks really good.

Must remember to ask Fi if she's heard any blue language carried in the wind!! But I know exactly what you mean about electrical wiring in dolls houses!!

    1. Glad you like them Andy, thank you. I had to custom make the mirror as well - just some tiny picture frame painted gold and mirror card.

    1. Hello Ray - Thank you for your nice comment regarding the work completed so far. It took me a while to work up to making the lights but I'm glad I did. The only ones I saw that would do the job came in around $400 each and that wasn't an option!

    1. You should give the lighting another go, Genevieve. It's not really the actual lighting that's the hard part, it's the little pins that tend to fly off and disappear when fitting that are the pest!
